    Dagmara Sitek

Senior Community Developer, Cmune (Gaming Industry)

#33 Dagmara Sitek – A young professional blazing her own path in China’s gaming industry

    Jan 8, 2015 | Executives & Professionals | 0 comments |

Dagmara is a young professional from Poland, where she studied the Italian Language & Culture and, later on, Journalism and Social Communications. She is currently the Senior Community Manager for First Person Shooter Games in a gaming company, Cmune, up in Beijing. Before landing in Beijing 3 years ago, she worked 4 years in the industry as Business Development Manager and Web Games Manager back home in Poland. From the start she has been very active in Beijing Gaming Networking scene where she loves sharing her knowledge and having a blast with friends. And of course, she never misses out big gaming event like China Joy, Game Developers Conference in Shanghai or Gaming Mobile International Conference in Beijing. She believes that the best marketing tool nowadays is to build a healthy community that can sustain itself.

    How she got to China

Dagmara was actually searching for opportunities in Germany when a friend of hers mentioned that a Beijing gaming company was looking for a Community Manager. She was looking for a role a bit more exciting and fast-paced than her former business development gig and it definitely didn’t take her long to see how exciting and emerging a market like China would be for a young professional like Dagmara. So she sent off her CV and within the month she was packing her bags and moving to Beijing!

    What made the job attractive

There were a couple of different factors that made Dagmara want to move to this particular job posting: 1) a good salary and benefits; 2) a new position as Community Manager; and 3)  the opportunity to be in China and satisfy her curiosity to learn the fast-paced computer industry here

    Failure moment

In the beginning, it was hard for Dagmara to balance life and work. As the Community Manager, she didn’t feel like she could take a break. While she slept–the game went on and in the morning she would have to deal with all of the issues that surfaced overnight while her community gamed. She found herself really caught up in criticism from the community and worked too long and too hard to manage it. Her takeaway? As Community Manager, she learned that she has to be the professional, not the gamer, and that meant shutting down her computer, and her brain, and learning to live a little outside of work hours.

    V-I-C-T-O-R-Y

Being in China, Dagmara has fully embraced the traditional ways of the Chinese – Traditional Chinese Medicine – so much so that she has started a bit of her own entrepreneurial endeavor aiming to educate and inspire others on how to use TCM to better and balance your life.
