#7 Bob Fan – Repatriating Well
Bob Fan and his family moved from Minnesota to Shanghai two years ago for their expat experience. During their time in Shanghai, Bob worked as a Marketing Director for Covidien’s Emerging Markets group, while Darcy lived the tai-tai life and kids Kiana and Eric attended Concordia International School. Their time in Shanghai was rich and rewarding, and having repatriated two months ago, they’re currently navigating their way back to life in Minnesota.

Show Notes
How long into the repatriation journey
Just two months
Why leave
Although his entire family loved their experience in China, with his two children finishing up elementary school, it seemed like the right time to go home.
Repatriation shock thus far
Two months into their repat journey, they’re still in the honeymoon phase. Bob draws this analogy: it’s sort of like putting your contact in the wrong eye–going home, it’s sort of the same but different.
Biggest challenge currently
Nothing, really! Except maybe missing the full time home support.
How his company prepared him for repatriation
They didn’t do much–although his family had a really neat chance to get some closure. Listen in to find out how!
What would he have liked to have looking back
An overview of what to expect. Questions answered like, “Will there be culture shock coming back? What might it look like?”
