The notes below are intended to go along with the 15-minute conversation with Sandra above–they may not make much sense without the details!

Editor’s Note: Completing this plan is by no means a fool-proof way to ensure that everything will go smoothly in an emergency–after all, an emergency is by nature unpredictable, at best. However, if you’re like me, taking the time and energy to think this through on paper and discussing with family members and emergency contacts may help you sleep a little better at night, assured that you’ve done your homework. That being said, may 2015 never, ever bring the opportunity for you to put your well-thought-out plan into action. –Ally Mona

Sandra nailed it on the head! I work for a China licensed broker insurance broker and it’s scary the amount of expatriates I speak with all over China everyday who don’t have any insurance! I tell them the exact same thing as Sandra in regards to the necessity of having some form of medical insurance, and an evacuation plan. Accidents can happen to anyone/anywhere (just ask my sister- the American RN working as an evacuation/repatriation nurse based out of Shanghai!) You want to make sure that you have access to quality healthcare and the support you need to get it. It is so important to choose an insurance provider that is reliable, reputable and LICENSED in China! Well said Sandra!
